Estimated to be about 4.5 Billions years old, these space rocks date back to the beginning of our solar system. To date, there have been only 61 known pallasite meteorite falls worldwide, making pallasite meteorite a highly prized and sought after mineral.
This particular specimen came from the Imilac Pallasite Meteorite, found in the Atacama Dessert in 1822. The total mass of the fall, although debris was strewn over an 8 kilometer radius, is estimated to about 1,000 kilograms.
